Reflecting On My Podcast Journey

woman writing a memoir about her journey of grief

My podcast just turned 2 on March 16th! Over 9,000 downloads...and I'm still going. It's hard to believe that I've produced 91 episodes at the time of writing this post. 🎉

Recently, I was reminded about why I dove into podcasting when I was making a guest appearance on another podcast. Here's a snippet from the interview:

Why did you start podcasting?
I’ve secretly always wanted to have my own radio show, but just never seriously pursued it. However, once I got my final book draft done and was waiting for it to be edited (which took four months), I decided podcasting was the modern day radio show, and I started thinking of a podcast concept and took a course on podcasting.

Tell me about the name: I Thought I Was Over This.
At the time, I was working with business coach and lovely human, Katie Wood, and we started doing excavation exercises to determine a possible theme in all the work I do. This was a three month process (since I love wearing a lot of professional hats). Eventually, I recognized a theme in all my work is the sentiment of "Haven't I arrived yet?" as well as "I thought I was over this!" This paired nicely with one of my favorite solutions for most things healing-related: "The fastest way anywhere important is slow."

What's the purpose of your podcast?
The purpose of my podcast is to help people get into their body, become less rushed, less anxious, and more present. Rewiring the brain, which is absolutely needed for healing, can only be done in a slowed-down pace. Otherwise, we are usually just changing behaviors, not internal processes and dynamics. Further, I want everyone to recognize themselves as creative, sacred beings, and the highest level of creativity happens when we are bored. Traumatized nervous systems hate boredom, so I love helping people shift to enjoy new experiences like boredom. Essentially, I wanted to help people who didn't have access to therapy get regulated, less sleep deprived, and more grounded, so they, too, could start showing up differently.

What's been the feedback so far?
Many of my listeners say things like, "It’s working! I’m feeling more authentic. More grounded." This makes my work deeply gratifying.

Thank you, readers, for all your support! If you listen on a podcast platform and haven't already done so, rating and writing a review is so helpful for spreading the word about my podcast.
