A Journey to Hope: Embracing Lament During Lent
a place to practice grieving and suffering well while reflecting on Christ's Easter Journey
What is A Journey to Hope: Embracing Lament During Lent?
Do you feel angry with God because you can’t believe the suffering and/or loss you’re enduring? Do you feel alone in navigating “positive theology” where you can’t express your doubt or anger? Do you have a difficult time creating space to feel your sorrow and grief? If this sounds like you, welcome! This is a safe space for you to land!
Journey to Hope: Embracing Lament During Lent is a six-week program creating space for sorrow and lament. This program delves into the teachings of the Life of Christ, as well as combining poems and psalms as a way to write our own psalms of lament. Never fear — you do not need to share with a large group (or at all). Each session promises a space for healing and connection.
This program will be focused on helping you lament and “suffer well” along with others who understand and empathize with your grief and suffering. Research shows time spent in lament has a direct correlation with meaning-making and growth emerging from suffering. Our time together will help you enter into your suffering.
This program is not just a series of lessons; it's a journey towards healing alongside a community moving towards one goal — carrying our suffering well. Join us to find understanding, empathy, and support from others who share a similar commitment to healing. Your presence would add immeasurable richness to this collective experience.
Important to note: this program is not a grief peer support or process therapy group. The focus is on cultivating awareness around, and creatively expressing, lament as it impacts your emotions, thoughts, body, relationships, and spirituality.
Dr. Kimber, a licensed clinical psychologist, brings extensive experience in assisting clients who have faced significant losses, trauma, and anxiety. Her expertise extends to neuroscience, understanding the impact of trauma on the body, and a depth psychology of grief, including how our past familial relationships can impact grieving. Dr. Kimber is committed to helping you carry your grief as you continue to live without your loved one(s), offering a gentle and supportive approach.
Beyond her professional credentials, Dr. Kimber has her own personal experience of navigating grief after the third-trimester loss of her baby. She understands the unique challenges this journey presents and is dedicated to guiding you through it with empathy and understanding. Your path to hope begins here.
Through A Journey to Hope: Embracing Lament During Lent, Dr. Kimber will guide you through a series of six (6) lectures that will help you enter into lament.
The course will help you:
Move your healing forward - whatever the painful circumstances
Navigate the emotional ups and downs of lament by learning the science of suffering
Change your beliefs about suffering by studying the suffering of Christ
Strengthen your self-awareness, which helps change take place
Express your grief rather than avoid it
Find hope and meaning by going into your grief and suffering
By the end of the course, you'll feel comfortable expressing all of your feelings to God, feel empowered to handle the feelings and triggers that come with this journey of suffering, and have a newfound sense of peace and hope.
