Building Internal Calm in 6 Weeks (recorded series)
A Meditation 6 Week Series: 6 one-hour recorded sessions
Maybe you’re longing for an internal calm because there’s been so much stress in your life. You may have even developed physical challenges due to the manifestations of stress on your body. Maybe you are finding it difficult to quiet your mind and piece together moments of focused attention. Maybe still, you want some kind of change but meditation seems like something of Eastern religions, New Age, at least something other than a grounded Christian belief system. Or you’ve tried to meditate before and believe you simply can’t do it. If any of these maybe scenarios seem like you, this series might indeed be the very thing you need.
Broken into six segments, this series grounds our meditation practice in science, ancient monastic teachings along with scripture to help ease one in to what it looks like to love Christ and be a meditator. You can expect this series to help you begin to build a calm nervous system, - moving from stressed to peace with emotional balance. Each session has an experiential meditation and a psychoeducation offering which integrates science and scripture along with a question and answer segment in many of the sessions.
Who should attend: Anyone interested in learning about meditation as well as practicing it - I consider it the '“pre-prayer” routine spoken about in the practice of silence. We focused primarily on calming thoughts, feeling more into our bodies, and building self-awareness. It is directed to those with Christian beliefs as well will be reading scripture and discussing the Christian understanding of God but anyone is welcome. There is a proverbial seat at this table for all interested.
By the end of the series we will have covered:
neuroscience of the practice of meditation so you can understand the scientific “why” of how we are created for calm and slowing down
the hows of quieting the mind and meditating so you can apply the principles at any time of day without a “formal session”
differences between prayer, contemplation, and meditation so you can understand which spiritual discipline you’d like to choose to deepen
weekly themes such as self-awareness, body, giving and receiving, creating space for God’s love in order to deepen your practice of meditation
Participants of this series have reported: feeling more authentic in relationship with God, feeling delight in prayer, better sleep, feelings of greater observation and self-awareness, and feeling more relaxed than ever doing regular meditation.
